One-year-old exams
Like any parent, you worry about your child’s health. Don’t forget about their oral health as well! Did you know that the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends you take your child to the dentist by his or her first birthday? While that may seem a bit early for your child to receive dental treatment, it’s important to remember that baby teeth are essentially place-holders for the adult teeth that will come later.
A lifetime of happy smiles starts at year one. Schedule your baby’s one year-old dental appointment with Dr. McCall, and give your child a healthy start.
TOOTH EXTRACTION
In some cases, injury or decay damages a tooth extensively, and an extraction is the proper treatment option to start you on the path toward complete dental health. We can remove your troublesome tooth and can give you the treatment options for replacing that tooth to complete your beautiful smile once again.
ROOT CANALS
Damage to the nerve tissue inside of a tooth sometimes requires a root canal procedure. Despite the tales you may have heard regarding the procedure, most root canals are minimally uncomfortable-especially compared to the pain and discomfort you may be feeling before the procedure. Dr. McCall takes advantage of advances in technology and dental techniques that make root canal procedures more effective, while also taking less time.
FILLINGS
When the decay has been removed from the tooth, it is replaced with “filling” material. In the past, amalgam (silver) fillings were placed into the cleaned out portion of the tooth. With advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored fillings instead of silver fillings. You may even elect to remove your old silver fillings in favor of new, undetectable tooth-colored fillings.
Oral Cancer Screening
Did you know that every day approximately 100 adults are diagnosed with oral cancer in the U.S.? And, unfortunately, most of these instances of cancer are not identified until the late stages of development, which leads to a high rate of death. However, this does not have to be the case. When found in its early stages of development, oral cancer has a survival rate approaching 90 percent. That’s why each time you visit Dr. McCall, you will receive a thorough oral cancer screening. McCall Dental Studio will monitor your oral tissue very closely, making note of any changes over time. Even though you may not realize it, your lips, inner cheeks, gums, tongue, and other soft tissues are being examined during every visit. And, you can help. Make sure you mention any tender areas or sores you may have- especially if you can’t remember what caused the injury or if they persist longer than a couple of weeks. Our goal is to stay ahead of any developing problems by being proactive and diligent in our care.
Nightguard
Many people who notice chipped or cracked teeth, but who don’t remember when the injury occurred, damaged their teeth while they were sleeping. Grinding or clenching your teeth during the night will cause your teeth to chip, crack, and even break. To keep you from seriously damaging your teeth, we recommend a dental appliance called a night-guard, which protects your teeth from grinding and clenching in your sleep. Our team takes great care in making sure you have a proper fit to prevent pain in your jaw joint.
Do you also suffer from headaches? If so, you may find that a side benefit of your night-guard is headache prevention. Many headaches start during the night, caused by the extreme pressure generated as you grind and clench your teeth. Ask our team about having a night-guard custom created especially for you.
Mouthguard
Do you or your child play contact sports? If the answer is yes, consider a mouthguard to help protect your smile. According to the American Dental Association, mouthguards prevent approximately 200,000 injuries each year in high school and collegiate football alone. The key is having a perfect fit. Trust Dr. McCall for the proper diagnosis, design, and fitting of a mouthguard for you or for a member of your family, and have better peace of mind during high-impact activities.
NTI
You don’t have to live with chronic head and neck pain. An NTI is a specialized tension suppression system that involves the creation of a customized mouthpiece that is worn at night. The mouthpiece prevents jaw clenching and grinding associated with overstimulation of the trigeminal nerve, which can cause temporomandibular Joint disorders (TMD), chronic tension headaches, and migraines. For more information, ask Dr. McCall’s staff about NTIs at your next visit.
